Description
Carlos Zenón explains that the Vieques Struggle did not begin with the fishermen protest of 1978, but with the expropriation of Vieques’s lands and homes by the US Navy in the 1940s. At the age of four, Zenón witnessed the arrival of the US Navy and experienced the expropriation of his mother’s home, where he lived with his little sister, as well as many other homes of the Viequense families. He affirms that he did not get involved in the Vieques struggle, but that he rather grew up in it, because since he was four years old he suffered the loss of his home as a consequence of the presence of the US Navy in Vieques.
